Broby Grafiska / The Packaging Print Park II Blog

The packaging Arena, CTF - Service Research Centre, Department of Chemical Engineering - latter to Karlstad University - and Broby Grafiska Education work together in a interdisciplinary project. The project is a part of the PPPII project which is operated by Broby Grafiska Education. The project is perfomed by Linda Stolpe and Oskar Hörnqvist - student from Packaging Design and Graphical Media Production, both AVET (Advanced Vocational Education and Training) programmes at Broby Grafiska Education.

Printing with multiple colours make demands on the printer to aviod print errors such as misregister and differences in hue. Suppose that the packaging to be printed is a well-known trademark, thus a product with well-known and well-defined appearence - how will the consumer react if a print error is implemented on the packaging? Which print error causes highest/lowest disturbance at the point of purchase? Which package is the consumer willing to buy in spite of print error? At which limit is the print error much too large for purchase and the consumer picks another product?

These are questions to be answered in the project. Eye-tracker and questionaires are used for evaluation of consumer behavior at the point of purchase. The investigations are performed in situ in a public supermarket.

Broby Grafiska Utbildning and Roland DG have formed a partnership called The Roland Academy.
This will give Broby Grafiska Utbildning new technical capabilities at our prototype center. Roland DG has provided us with the new, state-of-the-art roll-fed UV-printer, Roland LEC-300. This equipment allows us to print 4 colors + white + varnish (spot varnish). There is also a cutting function that could be used, for instance, when creating labels on self-adhesive materials.
